One of the advantages of preparing a new aerial map is the accurate assembly on one drawing of all parcels of land owned by the Hampden-Sydney College. This has also permitted the accurate measurement of acreage. All of the College's 1998 land holdings are colored dark red in this drawing.
The College held a total of 660 acres in late 1998, a figure somewhat less that the figure of 800 acres reported in oral histories. The campus detail rectangle shown on this drawing delineates the focus of the campus plan study, which envelops about 300 acres in total.
The reader should note that all maps of the focus area following are rotated ninety degrees, with north to the left side of the page, east to the top.
