A large landscaped parking lot is shown in campus plan drawings taking the place of the existing parking lots and the physical plant operations building and yard. The proposed lot accommodates nearly 200 parking spaces, a net gain of 85 spaces over the existing layout.
Significant amounts of additional parking are not necessary on the Hampden-Sydney campus, save for special events. The existing total of 917 spaces means that there are 92 spaces per 100 students enrolled, compared with a nationwide college campus mean of 49 spaces per 100 students. Overall, the campus plan shows an increase of 258 spaces, for a new total of 1,175 spaces, which will bring the parking ratio to 118 spaces per 100 students, ample, though not the highest in the nation.
