TIGERS WIN VaSID MEN'S SPORTS SURVEY,
PLACE SECOND OVERALL
(July 14, 2010) NEWPORT NEWS, VA - From start to finish
Hampden-Sydney athletics had an outstanding year with not one losing record,
compiling an overall record of 90-37-1 (70.3%) between football, soccer,
basketball, baseball, lacrosse and tennis. Hampden-Sydney's winning percentage
was the best in the men's division in the recent Virginia Sports Information
Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey. The survey ranks all
27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage.
The 70.3% winning percentage was helped in great part by
football, soccer, and lacrosse who all had their best records in program
history. This past year marked the highest winning percentage in school
history while it marks the first time Hampden-Sydney has won the men's division.
While winning the men's division, the Tigers finished second
overall, trailing behind Christopher Newport, which won 72% of all of its
contests.
Following the Tiger's in the overall percentage was Virginia
Wesleyan (61.4%), Mary Washington (59.2%), and Lynchburg (59%). Christopher
Newport also won the women's division with an impressive 80.2% winning
percentage. Below are the overall records for the 2009-10 Tigers.
Football - 10-1
Soccer - 16-4
Basketball - 13-13
Baseball - 23-10-1
Lacrosse - 13-5
Tennis - 15-4
